Periodontal Disease

Periodontal diseases are diseases of the gum tissues that support your teeth. Periodontal diseases are completely preventable with proper oral care, regular professional cleanings, and check ups. But without regular cleanings and exams, periodontal diseases increase in severity.

There are two major types of periodontal diseases: gingivitis and periodontitis.

Gingivitis is mild and reversible, as it only affects the gums. If Dr. Kim notices you have gingivitis, she can create a treatment plan to reverse the effects and restore your mouth to health.

However if gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, the tissue may need to be treated with a deep cleaning to optimize the health of your gum and bone. If periodontitis is left untreated, it could lead to more serious repercussions such as the loss of your teeth and deterioration of your overall health.
